Crown Farm Equestrian
The Badgers came to Crown Farm in 1934, my grandfather was the 1st tenant followed by my father and I took over the tenancy in 1972. The farm is 460 acres, we also farm Ascott Hill Farm which is 150 acres, and we are in partnership with Pat and Simon Edginton.
In the 70's farming was reasonably profitable with a big push to increase production, soon increase production led to surpluses and therefore poor profits. Thus the need to diversify. We originally built a UK chasers course, but soon realised this was not the way to go and made a XC training field as it is today.
Over the next few years we were asked by various pony clubs and riding clubs to run events, this we did but always felt that the course was too undulating, so we asked Mike Etherington Smith to design a XC Course. This he did, we then built lots of new fences and joined the British Eventing calendar in 2003. Every year we make a few changes to keep the course interesting and challenging. However the basis of the course remains the same, hardly surprising employing the best course designer in the world.
Almost at the same time we built 12 stables and over the years this had expanded to 35 stables, an outdoor, indoor, lunging arenas, horse walker, 10 miles of off-road riding. We are also in partnership with Mark Rimell on the all weather gallops.
If you have a horse at Crown Farm, all these facilities are free and the use of the XC course!
We accomodate facilities to include all displines at whatever level, from leisure riding, Western, riding club, show jumping, dressage and British eventing. We allow all clients to use their own trainers, or we could recommend.
